Coffee

Some triathletes like to use coffee to assist in their training. They find that the caffeine can help energize them. Of course, it can also result in a crash. Additionally, some like to drink coffee after triathlon training to help re-energize them after tiring exercise.

How much do you spend on triathlon gear?

I notice some other triathletes talk about how they buy this and that to assist in their triathlon training and racing. It sounds as if they’ll spend hundreds of dollars without even thinking twice.

2 Days Each Week

My town has a public pool at the high-school that residents can use to swim laps during the winter. Unfortunately, the pool is only open 2 days each week. It has about an hour of lap swim in the early morning and an hour at night, on Tuesday and Thursday. I wish it had more. My old town had the pool open 5 mornings and 3 nights each week.

It’s So Hot

It’s funny, because I’ve been posting about preparing for the coldness of the upcoming winter. Well, the last few days have been nearly unbearable in terms of heat and humidity. It makes me feel tired, and makes it hard to do work and exercise. Luckily, I do my running at night when it cools down some.

Vaseline for Cold Biking

While discussing triathlon, a fellow triathlete suggested using Vaseline on exposed skin when biking in the cold. I haven’t tried it, but it may help protect my face from the cold wind while biking.

I live in Connecticut, and it goes from boiling hot summers to freezing cold winters.

Swimming Intervals

When you are at the pool, you don’t need to swim as long of a distance as you will in your race. You can swim intervals at a faster pace. This will give you enough training. If you can do a 500 straight-through, you will probably be able to do the full length of the swim.

Running Felt Cold

I felt cold running last night, for the first time in a while. I run at night during the hot summer to avoid the heat. Now maybe I will start running a little earlier to avoid the cool nights. I just don’t want to think about the upcoming winter. I don’t like the feeling of running in the cold, where parts of my body feel hot and sweaty while other parts feel cold and numb.

During the winter, I do a lot more swimming to avoid running as much. By swimming indoors, I avoid the weather.

More Cycling

I hope to get out and go bike riding some more this summer, before it gets too cold. I do not go bike riding once it starts getting colder, because of the freezing wind chill.
